Windyke Country Club has a competitive swim team called the Windyke Piranhas that competes in the Country Club League. Swimmers from 5-19 years old can participate. Each swimmer's family must be a member in good standing of the club. With a young team and plenty of new swimmers, the Windyke Piranhas ended the season with two wins and four losses. But that says nothing about the team spirit, camaraderie, and sportsmanship that the swimmers and parents showed during the year. I'd have to go as far as saying that this has been the best year out of my 5 years involved with the team. And that speaks volumes for our club, the coaches, parents and swimmers. Since this article is submitted before our year-end banquet (where swimmers awards are announced) and City Meet, I'm taking the liberty of using this article to thank everyone for a fantastic year.
Thanks to our field of parents who stepped up to the plate and volunteered endlessly during the season. With such a small team, extra volunteer duty is required and everyone pitched in. Thanks to Michael Bartz for being our announcer, to Greg Thompson for being our photographer, for Elizabeth McClendon for being our scorer. Thanks to the Windyke Board - Diana Harviel, Jennifer Lynch, Rachel Conrad, Wendy Lisle, Becca McClendon, and Stephanie Russell. These ladies were well organized, always ready to lend an extra hand, and made the year run seamlessly. And many thanks to our fabulous coaches - Felipe Cortes, Grace Moore, and Peterson Wellford. Our coaches did an amazing job developing such a young team!
The Club purchased the new wireless timing system for the team, and I want to personally thank Russ Garner for his commitment to our swimmers. Many families join Windyke because of the swim team, and we are fortunate to have a club that is continually looking for ways to improve our facilities and programs. We received many comments on the landscaping and improvements to the pool. Thanks to John Stukenborg and his team of lifeguards for the help during practice and for setting up for our home meets. Thanks to Knox Keene and his staff for the wonderful food and service during our home meets.
